This 14-acre garden is built on a rocky, heavily wooded landscape. Solid ledge lies within inches of the soil surface over virtually the entire site, making it difficult to create spatial structure by the addition of large plantings. Spaces are carved out of the existing woodland, water is used to mediate between the mass of the building and the enormous light well created by the lawn, and simple, sculptural elements are sited in the woods to create a sense of place and passage. |
